There's a deep technical difference between a system that's purely custodial (bank accounts, stock portfolios, Wallet of Satoshi, Kraken) and one that's a mix of both like ecash or sidechains, where the IOU is non-custodial but the Bitcoin it represents is not on your control.

Last week I built an MCP tool that gives agents access to search for code snippets on nostr.

The change in the output LLMs produce with it is MASSIVE; they no longer worked based on a large blob of unweighted code; now I can point them to see EXACTLY how I do a particular implementation under very precise conditions.

Now whenever I see the LLM making a mistake I correct it, publish a code snippet, and the LLM never makes the mistake again.

It’s absolutely wild to see LLMs using interfaces in NDK I literally just implemented and getting their uses right first time.

This is not only useful for nostr development.

This is useful for ALL development.

And requires cryptographic identity, web-of-trust, censorship-resistance and money.

All building blocks that are in our very robust toolbox.

The future is very bright

GM, yesterday evening my aunt, my moms sister 73 years old called me. She wanted more bitcoin. I once paid the meat she got for us in bitcoin a couple of years ago. She tracked the price in her muunwallet for the past years. But she was always skeptical and critical of my “extreme believe” as she named it.
Her reaching out to buy bitcoin for her grandchildren feels like a major achievement for me.
This year I’ve seen more and more “old” people become very skeptical about the euro and the future of their euro in the banks in general.
If bitcoin also becomes boomer tech we are up for a major inflow. The current mainstream news, constant war pondering and European war bonds apparently help shift their minds towards this alternative.
When looking at books sales we still see a constant daily sales of

In the 26th edition of my newsletter, I explore the history and mechanisms that enable Bitcoin and Nostr to act as catalysts for innovation and human progress.

I would like to thank @UNCLE ROCKSTAR for the inspiring discussions and encouraging words. What began as a conversation before my trip to Nostrica led to months of introspection and ultimately this article.

I would also like to thank @gsovereignty for his work with Nostrocket and our exchange of ideas that led to the publication of this piece! I look forward to exploring and understanding the possibilities of Nostr deeper as I continue my journey.

We've tried rate-limiting Cashu mints with PoW but turns out if you want mobile phones with javascript to compete against DoS servers, the server always wins...

I'm convinced now that the only practical use of PoW is Bitcoin and it's better to use sats to slow things down.

Tap-to-pay with CashuBTC ecash — for bitcoin.

Fiat credit cards nailed the UX: fast, offline, works anywhere.
I always wanted that for Bitcoin.
Now it’s open-source. Private. Instant. Beep, done.

In the video: two Cashu wallets for bitcoin.

Left: @Minibits (PoS)
Right: cashu.me (payer)

Ecash is sent directly via NFC — no internet, no delay. Beep, boop.

Ecash is a bearer token — the money lives on your device, not on a server. That’s why it pairs so well with NFC. Pick an amount, tap to send. No talking to servers. No syncing. Just push it over. The payment is pretty much instant. A PoS can accept ecash from any mint and receive payments via Lightning.

Still early days, but we’re experimenting. Card-to-phone works, but phone-to-phone? That’s the real killer use case.

#NorouzMobarak to all who celebrate! Yesterday we welcomed the first day of the Persian New Year (& first day of spring) at 9am here in Madiera.

We are now 2 years in to Bhutan's Bitcoin Strategic Reserve experiment.

That means we now hae some good data on how it has affected the economy.

For context: Bhutan have formed a large Bitcoin Strategic Reserve by using their surplus renewable hydropower to mine Bitcoin.

The IMF warned that nations embracing Bitcoin would destabilize their economy, be less effective at attracting foreign direct investment, and endanger their decarbonizing and environmental initiatives.

What does the data say:

1. Bhutan's Bitcoin Strategic Reserve has directly addressed pressing fiscal needs. "In June 2023, Bhutan allocated $72 million from its holdings to finance a 50% salary increase for civil servants"

2. Bhutan was able to "use Bitcoin reserves to avert a crisis as foreign currency reserves dwindled to $689 million"

3. Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay in an interview said

As someone who would like to see the federal government in the US shrunk dramatically, I believe a strategic bitcoin reserve accumulated via a mechanism like Bit Bonds is the only viable path to make a smaller government possible.

This may seem counterintuitive - "if the US government acquires bitcoin it makes them stronger." However, when you take a step back and think of the problem of the ever expanding federal government you realize that a large part of the problem is driven by the need to roll over debt by issuing new debt to pay it back.

This leads to a forced expansion of the federal government that can only be reversed if something new is introduced that can defease the debt without having to issue new paper. As it stands today, bitcoin is the only thing that can practically produce this defeasment.

The Game Is Rigged—And You’re the Product 🎩💸

You work harder, earn more, and think you're getting ahead… but 12.6% of your money vanishes every year.

That’s not a one-time event. It’s baked into the system. Over a decade, that’s a 71% wealth drain—without you even realizing it.

🖨️ More money printed = Your purchasing power stolen

📉 More dollars in existence = Your time is worth less

🕰️ More inflation = You work longer for the same stuff

This isn’t a “bad year.” It’s the historical average. The system was built to extract value from you.

21 million fixes this—because nobody can print more of it.

Self-Validating Data and How Nostr Signed Events Fit the Model

Self-validating data is information that carries intrinsic proof of its authenticity and integrity, eliminating the need for external validation from a central authority. This approach enhances security, reduces reliance on intermediaries, and improves data portability across different systems.

What is Self-Validating Data?

Self-validating data includes built-in mechanisms to confirm its correctness without requiring external verification. Key properties of self-validating data include:
1. Cryptographic Signatures – The data includes a signature that can be independently verified against a known public key.
2. Tamper Resistance – Any modification to the data invalidates the signature, making alterations detectable.
3. Decentralized Verification – Anyone with the necessary cryptographic tools can validate the data, rather than relying on a central authority.

Examples of self-validating data include signed blockchain transactions, cryptographic proofs, and digital signatures

Working on a manuscript submission to a scientific journal recently. Their website is full of statements about how submissions must adhere to "their principles" of open acces, open source, transparency in funding and conflicts of interest, and on and on.

At the end of all that, they're happy to charge me $4000 USD just for the privilege of hosting my paper and telling me it's "quality research published in their prestigious journal". They do none of the funding, none of the research, none of the peer review, none of the advocacy. They pidgeon-hole me into using expensive, closed-source, soul-sucking software for writing such that institutions literally have no choice but to be captured. They display my work in ways that are no more innovative than print.

The parasitic monopoly of scientific publishing is overripe for disruption by something superior like #nostr

Think I’m going to turn this account into a building in public account.

I’ve never really been good at sharing things as I go, because I’m more of an introvert and generally like to work through things in private or with a small group of people.

Sure I can get on stage and give a talk or shill what I’m doing on a pod or network at an event - but that’s all very draining for me.

I’m also overly critical of my own work (whether that’s mine directly or the product of the team I’m working with). I’m a perfectionist at heart, so don’t like to share early.

That all being said - we’ve learned sooooo much in the last year, especially in the last 5/6 months.

We’ll be rolling a first actual public beta of @Satlantis out in

gm, Bitcoin is Truth.

If you've been part of any group effort, you've seen it - as the group generates and grows value, complexity doesn’t just rise - it explodes. Far faster than the value itself. Eventually, questions emerge: Who contributed what? Who deserves how much?

At certain levels of complexity, the same patterns repeat. Any effort that generates significant value will reach a stage where some members will be labeled stupid, lazy, evil, irrelevant. Not by accident, but as a tactic - a way to justify redistributing equity to those seeking to further elevate themselves. The only question is: at what level will this happen? Tens of thousands? Millions? Billions?

But it will always happen. And it will keep happening. When people face the choice between acknowledging that you earned a million or keeping it for themselves, the vast majority will “discover” a

EU: Debt acceleration ahead!

Eyes on the debt in the eurozone! The withdrawal of the USA from the financing of the Ukraine disaster gives the eurocommies exactly the opportunity they have been waiting for a long time to create panic, stir up fear of war and communitize the sovereign debt of the European Union. For legal reasons, this has not been possible until now, but it should now be easy to get rid of it as the mainstream press once again succeeds in manipulating public opinion.

Since the lockdown policy, the eurozone economy has been in recession only surviving through massive expansion of the state sector and credit-financed artificial demand for dubious projects such as the green transformation. The idea of a ‘deep bear market’ with bitcoin in the $80k range is both laughable and ridiculous.

Like zoom out and see what is being built.

Never has there been a greater opportunity to build substantial and meaningful contributions on top of the most important economic and financial innovation created since double entry accounting itself. There are mountains of capital to be created for those that are willing to put in the hard work and take the risk on building on top of what they believe in.

Woody Wide Web

Kevin Beiler made a spatial "Map" of fungal connections between trees in a 30 x 30 meter plot of forest. The most well connected tree had forty-seven connections via fungal networks to other trees.

el

The most amount of "hops" it took to get from this most well networked tree to any other tree in the plot was 3. Three hops to get from point A to any point B. The low number of hops was entirely caused by the older trees having more connections to each other than any of the younger trees.

This pattern of connectivity is the same in the World Wide Web: the great majority of web pages have just a few connections and a sparse few pages have many, many connections. This pattern repeats in almost all networks, from global air travel to neuronal

The crazy part is that the protocol IS the sexy part.

Engagement on corporate tech platforms comes and goes, influencers come and go for various reasons, trends come and go so they aren’t really sexy or rare anymore. It’s not fresh, it’s not edgy.

Nostr is sexy just by being what it is. The protocol is edgy. The idea of it should give most Bitcoiners the buzz that they are looking for.

The way I see it, Bitcoin is filled with the only rabidly optimistic people whose positive outlook is not derived from any politics of any given "current moment".

I agree with @gladstein that the power of such a movement cannot be overstated.
To be inspired to build a future you have to first believe that a durable, long-term better world is possible. And you can't get that sort of low-time-preference durability by tying your boat to a 4-year duopoly political cycle.

...oh yea - and it's *global*.

"The Space" in Denver is awesome. There are a loads of interesting approaches for heat capture which is a great way for home miners to compete with the mega miners.

Tomorrow @Bitcoin Mechanic will be live-demoing DATUM for any miner that wants to create their own templates using their own nodes.

On our last day in Kenya, we visited the @Bitcoin Babies 🍼 project in the outskirts of Nairobi.

We were invited to having lunch with the participating mothers and their babies. They shared their stories of why and how they are using bitcoin now.

Here you find short interviews with the founder Naomi and the local lead Veronicah.
We also chatted with Noelyne from @Machankura @kgothatso@8333.mobi
how sending bitcoin in WhatsApp works.

The #history of my grandparents is a testament to the value of hard-earned wisdom, far surpassing any business degree. My grandmother, who hailed from Niederschlesien, lived to the age of 83, witnessing firsthand the devastating impacts of economic instability that is caused by Fiat money. Her parents lost everything during the Weimar Republic, only to be robbed again by the rise of brown socialism, followed by the harsh realities of red socialism and communism. By 1990, the situation had hardly improved, with the Deutsche Mark struggling to maintain its value. Then came the Euro in 2001, marking yet another shift in currency.

The purchasing power of fiat money seems to follow a singular trajectory: downward. The math may be complex, but the implications are clear. Should I divide my grandmother's 83 years by 5 or 4 to illustrate the frequency of currency changes? It’s astonishing to think that

“What we have forgotten is that thoughts and words are conventions, and that it is fatal to take conventions too seriously. A convention is a social convenience, as, for example, money. Money gets rid of the inconveniences of barter. But it is absurd to take money too seriously, to confuse it with real wealth, because it will do you no good to eat it or wear it for clothing. Money is more or less static, for gold, silver, strong paper, or a bank balance can “stay put” for a long time. But real wealth, such as food, is perishable. Thus a community may possess all the gold in the world, but if it does not farm its crops it will starve. In somewhat the same way, thoughts, ideas, and words are “coins” for real things. They are not those things, and though they represent them, there are many ways in

Imagine being this fragile. Like how did these people become adults without breaking into 1000 pieces?
