Meanwhile OpenTimestamps has been around since 2016, and it'll take a total SHA256 hash function break to prevent you from validating upgraded OTS proofs.

To do this i negentropy-synced down 600k notes and 200k zaps from the damus relay using a query across 300 active purple subscribers. This totalled about 700MB of data.
Then we used the new notecrumbs JSON api to pull down parsed notes and profiles which is used for rendering the note on each page.
Would be cool if this evolved into a creator dashboard for viewing your top performing posts and analytics 🤔 let me know if ya’ll would like that…

It seems that it will be very hard for Brazil to identify and enforce the fines on VPN usage for Twitter/X. But it’s a powerful scare tactic.
When the United States banned gold ownership in the1930s (which lasted for four decades all the way into the 1970s btw), they didn’t really enforce it at the household level. They just had large prison terms that were rarely ever applied, which effectively dried up liquidity in the gold market.
Some people have pointed out that Nostr relays could be blocked by Brazilian internet providers if Nostr was big enough to matter. However, more relays could spin up, so they’d have to keep adding to the list.
Brazil’s government could then say it’s illegal to use VPNs for any Nostr app around internet censoring. The defense against that is to make Nostr as ubiquitous

starting to scale the bitcoin LARP means other people taking responsibility for things that i might have been responsible for in the past and it’s reminding me of the one time that i was head of a big project at Etsy Android. we were on a tight schedule for a company wide launch. i ended up recruiting other teammates to help out with pieces i didn’t have time for. it was a lot of work but everyone had a lot of fun and we made it to the deadline! everyone was really excited, we impressed a lot of other engineers from different teams that worked with us. im still extremely proud of the work we did.
the only person who was unhappy was my manager who’s only feedback to me was that i shouldn’t have delegated work, he was disappointed i hadn’t handled the whole thing by myself.

really had been wanting to add some data lookups to a project but mempool dot space API has a limit on how many requests you can make but notably they don’t publish what the limit is. this made me really nervous about relying in them.
the data backing for mempool is an open source project called electrs. it turns out im already running an electrs server due to my nix-bitcoin install.
so all i needed to do was figure out how to interface with it and viola, got the data i need all on my own ♥️
big winners here imo are nix-bitcoin and tailscale which makes building personal infrastructure across home servers super easy!! as well as bitcoin being open source. lets go decentralized future!!

doing spec work is a really long process, that requires so much work and input from lots of different stakeholders. it's probably the hardest type of work a programmer can do, and i'm so so thrilled that we got this over the finish line!

there is no other ecosystem that has achieved this. most L2s on other ecosystems dont even get close to the *Liquid* federation’s level of decentralization. they just use centralized servers and a manually coordinated multisig
that brings with it a real cost: decentralization is expensive. duplication is basically the bedrock of decentralization but that also kills “efficiency of liquidity”, which is basically what every post-LN improvement is trying to fix
upgrades happen in phases: we try going left, discover problems and course correct to go more right etc

It’s also a sign of bad messaging around the applicability of 2-party accounts to certain payment situations (venmo for example)

fun fact: the “1” in secp256k1 denotes the number of subgroups for the curve (eg there aren’t any)

I'm always a bit torn about stuff like this. On the one hand, CRT is cool and it's even cooler that people have made successful attacks on real world systems using these so-called 'twist attacks' (basically the fuck up is to not check is the "point" you're provided, is actually on the curve).

But, on the other hand, calling it a danger when using secp256k1 for encryption seems a bit wrong when the danger is specifically that you *didn't* use secp256k1!
Indeed the substance of this attack is to exploit the fact that if a curve group has small subgroups, you can apply CRT to get info about secret keys. But secp256k1 doesn't have *any* subgroups. So the attack depends on the victim not checking if an externally given public key, is actually on secp256k1. Combining that key in a DH type exchange leads to naughtiness.

Finally unboxed the BitBox02 that I got at the last baltic honeybadger with a friend that's not as technical as i am and *wow* it is *really* nice. kinda feel like they nailed the screen UX
