Here's a "popular" BTC opinion that I agree with: robosats is awesome.

Here's a less popular one: robosats is not a p2p exchange. It's a custodial exchange. Their github makes this clear: "the coordinator [can] run away with your satoshis...by not releasing [them] to the buyer."

nostr-web-components has improved docs now at https://web.nostr.technology/
And new components:
- <nostr-note> for rendering full notes with proper formatting
- <nostr-text> for rendering just the text
- <nostr-follow> for rendering a simple "follow me on nostr" button that can actually be clicked (idea copied from @Saiyasodharan)

These components are very lightweight, they use no framework and only import what is strictly necessary from nostr-tools and nostr-gadgets. They're also very efficient and replaceable metadata is cached on IndexedDB very straightforwardly.

I want spend and replace to be much easier. For me, spending sats, even over LN, takes longer than a card and fails more often. And replacing it takes hours for me. Cards are so much easier than spend-and-replace right now.

Has anyone made a nostr client that prompts users to give their contacts "petnames" and only treats the name given in a profile as a "proposed name"? This paper argues that petnames can replace the DNS system: https://files.spritely.institute/papers/petnames.html

What if nostr sucks because (1) there are no tools for suppressing bots and therefore (2) real celebrities (the ones with millions of followers) don't want to post here and therefore (3) normies (i.e. the millions of people who follow celebrities) don't want to post here either (because their favorite people aren't here)

By popular demand (from 1 person), I added a BLSAG (Back's Linkable Spontaneous Anonymous Group) variant in Nostringer, similar to Monery scheme.
bLSAG signatures are linkable but still anonymous.
Can detect duplicate voting or track usage of a credential.

Will you consider adding support for "linkable" ring signatures? They are required for my Emessbee protocol, and it would be a cool hackathon project to port Emessbee so that its ring signatures work on bitcoin's elliptic curve instead of Ed25519

Celsius’ lawsuit against Chainalysis is absolutely wild.

The debtors are suing the firm on a total of SIXTEEN counts for a fraudulent audit of the scam's assets under management, misleading customers and investors.

Here’s the gist of it:

Celsius was a massive Ponzi scheme in which the founders manipulated the value of CEL tokens to dump their holdings on customers and investors.

In 2020, Celsius conducted what it called a ‘third-party audit’ of their total assets under management in partnership with Chainalysis, finding that Celsius had billions of Dollars “based on transactions, total withdrawals and total deposits.”

Unfortunately, this “first third-party verification of Celsius Network’s assets” was a complete and total lie, according to the complaint.

Not only did Chainalysis not conduct the audit, the complaint states – it

Lyn has a great thread about people who diss lightning:

Lyn Alden

1mo ago

The other day on Twitter/X, I paid out a 2,100,000 sat or $1,700 USD Lightning bounty.

Over the past couple years, I’ve offered an occasional challenge on Twitter/X.

When people tell me Lightning doesn’t work, I often ask them in random comments for their Lightning details so I can pay them in the next 5-10 minutes on the spot, permissionlessly, wherever they are, with this payment method that supposedly doesn’t work.

Every single time, they can’t do it. Because they haven’t even tried it. They’re just talking. I’ve done this a ton of times and nobody ever takes the sizable sat offerings.

In Dan Held’s anti-Nostr thread, Mark Jeffrey was critical of Lightning.
Unlike most who I offer the challenge to as 99% sure they won’t take it, I offered it to Mark despite knowing he had a much higher probability

Lyn also observes that lightning has "boosted sender privacy." Which is true, but did you know? Lightning also has better *receiver* privacy than monero. Even if you use a bolt11 invoice, the sender learns less information than he would if you gave him your monero address.

Lightning is so cool!

Social credit scores are already here. A low credit score affects all of this:

- Employers might not hire you
- Landlords might not rent to you
- Utilities corps might not serve you
- Insurance corps might charge you more
- Judges in child support cases might charge you less

People worry it might come over from China. But it's already here for years now. They probably got the idea from us.

Apparently my NWC tester is the most useful thing available if you want to add NWC to your client:

npub1jluy3

Replying to @USER

We did a lot of NWC development for @Rizful.com ... what helped was looking at open source code from COINOS and ALBY, if you can't find the repositories, let me know and I can dig them up. But really the MOST useful thing is @Super Testnet site https://supertestnet.github.io/nwc_tester/ ... to test your implemenation. Also you an look at the code of this site to understand how it works from the client perspective..... Finally, I can't imagine doing NWC development without running your own relay, at least for dev purposes, because it really helps to look at the logs of the relay to see the messages coming to and from your NWC implementation. Finally, read this 10 times... .https://github.com/nostr-protocol/nips/blob/master/47.md .. and then put it into an LLM and ask questions about it or have it talk to you about it... I find with complicated stuff like this, it's really critical to make

- better privacy
- doesn't leak info about sender/recipient/amount
- better merchant experience
- no hassle with consolidating outputs and warnings this will ruin your privacy
- better user experience
- wider acceptance and doesn't keep you poor

I continue to work on my hedgehog protocol and I've figured out how to add some cool features to it. I wrote a "bridge server" which helps "translate" hedgehog payments into lightning payments, and it works right now, which means a hedgehog wallet can pay regular lightning invoices. I also added support for something I call "unilateral channels."

What that means is, someone can be fully offline, not even talking to you, not even aware of you, and if you have their pubkey you can send them $100 in bitcoin (for example) in such a way that they "receive" it in a new hedgehog channel. You just use their pubkey to create a multisig and fund it with the $100, then send them a string of text containing signatures for the "force closure" transactions that they need in case they have to unilaterally exit from the multisig. Then,

Pet project of the day: Oracolo.
It is a minimalist Nostr blog that consists of a *single* ~140K html file. Personalize it with your npub and upload it where do you like, it just works. It also runs without a web server, so if you don't have a web site you can simply send it via email/dm to showcase your tales.

Examples:
https://raw.githack.com/dtonon/oracolo/master/examples/opensats.html
https://raw.githack.com/dtonon/oracolo/master/examples/hodlbod.html
https://raw.githack.com/dtonon/oracolo/master/examples/fiatjaf.html

Source and how-to: https://github.com/dtonon/oracolo

Take it as a didactic experiment, it's no production ready, indeed it has some limitations (no SEO friendly structure), but can work as a temporary solution (e.g. coming soon and parking pages), and it is still an example of how easy it is to create a Nostr-powered blog and deploy it on a low-tech infrastructure.

Bitcoin is patient, bitcoin goes up. It envies not altcoins, it boasts not its greatness, it never has pride. It does not dishonor nocoiners, it does not seek recognition, it never angers at volatility, it keeps no false records. Bitcoin does not delight in evil but sticks with the truth. It always protects, always verifies, always grows, always perseveres.

Bitcoin never fails. But where there are dips, they will cease; where there are lies, they will be rejected; where there are counterfeits, they will pass away. When satoshis are sent, we know not how they are locked, but when their signature comes, their lock becomes apparent. When I was a nocoiner, I talked like a nocoiner, I thought like a nocoiner, I reasoned like a nocoiner. When I found bitcoin, I put the ways of nocoiners behind me.
