Dopo essere stato parte della prima e variegata comunità di bitcoiner italiani (2011-2015), mi sono trasferito in Germania per diversi anni. Al mio rientro ho cercato gradualmente di scoprire come si fosse evoluto l’ecosistema bitcoin nazionale.
Ho così timidamente partecipato a qualche bitcoin meetup/spritz/beer, mi sono iscritto ai canali Telegram più importanti (Telegram!? Nel 2025!? seguito podcaster e youtuber vari, ecc.

Sto infatti incontrando quasi esclusivamente bitcoiner assolutamente conformi allo standard, ovvero bitcoiner che si identificano in qualche aggregato dei seguenti totem: no tax, no vax, pro gun, no immigrati, riscaldamento globale = truffa, UE = dittatura, W Mises, W Milei, W Bukele, W Trump, hodl, bull run, to the moon, dio, famiglia, palestra, bistecca e uova, …

DMs on the Primal web client aren’t very reliable—at least for me.
And even when they do arrive, the lack of notifications is a significant drawback.
On Android, Amethyst works pretty well. However, I still miss a robust web client for Nostr DMs.

Domain name registrars are still the most relevant and critical centralized component of the Internet.
I'm surprised that we have not been able to transition to a more decentralized, distributed, or federated system.
Despite various attempts, nothing has been able to gain significant traction. (I still remember the excitement of using Namecoin to set up a .bit domain that no one visited ...)
Perhaps this is an area where Nostr could play a role?

Il ministro Giorgetti:
"Le criptovalute stanno emergendo come una forza economica per certi versi dirompente.
La loro capacità di operare al di fuori dei tradizionali circuiti bancari e di sfidare la centralità delle valute sovrane sta portando a nuove forme di indipendenza economica".
A parte l'uso del termine "criptovalute" anziché "Bitcoin", mi trova sostanzialmente d'accordo.

Is there any Nostr-based service that could replace Dribbble?

You might ask what is wrong with Dribbble. Well, they recently updated their ToS.
“Designers are no longer permitted to display or share their contact information (like email addresses, phone numbers, social media handles) prior to client payment on Dribbble.”
Dribbble wants to handle payments, and it is just fine. But some designers might prefer a self-hosted, self-sovereign alternative and Nostr might indeed be of help here.

Are fractions of satoshis a real thing?
I’m using a crypto accounting service that claims bitcoins are stored on the blockchain with 16 decimal places, and therefore, it’s perfectly reasonable for their reports to include more than the standard 8 digits after the decimal point.
I’ve searched for evidence to support this claim, but so far, I haven’t found any confirmation of 16 decimals. Additionally, no blockchain explorer I’ve checked displays more than the usual 8 decimals.

This new service from @Alby looks like magic!
I’ve always been told that Bitcoin and subscriptions does not play well together, but apparently Alby managed to solve the conundrum and now I might be able to schedule regular weekly payments to my daughters’ wallets. How cool is that?
I’m wondering if there are elements of centralization in this solution.
I’d love to hear a more detailed explanation of the inner workings.

I'm not sure I would trust a project that in order to “reward the independent contributors running the nodes worldwide” launched its own pre-mined ERC-20 token and raised tens of millions by selling it at $0.50.
Today, the NYM token trades at $0.056 and its price chart closely resembles a classic pump-and-dump shitcoin.
Even worse, NYM allocation scheme reserves only 36% of the token for the mix-mining network, while a staggering 57% goes to founders and investors …

Non se ne sono accorti in molti, ma sabato è nato un nuovo soggetto politico: il Partito LIberaldemocratico promosso da Luigi Marattin.
Nella sezione “Innovazione e Competitività” non si trova nessun riferimento a Bitcoin (era sperare troppo), ma in compenso si può leggere questa perla:
“Supportare ed accelerare il progetto della Banca Centrale Europea di introduzione dell’euro digitale, come strumento di semplificazione dei pagamenti (e di lotta all’evasione fiscale) e di contrasto ai pericolosi rischi di utilizzo di monete alternative.”

While I work for a company (Firefish.io) that has “Never sell your bitcoins” as its major claim, I do believe that spend-and-replace should be a more common practice, especially now that there is a growing number of merchants and service providers that do accept bitcoin as payment.
Easier said than done. Spend-and-replace is still hindered by many obstacles:
- Spending in most countries is a taxable event, meaning that the usual 3-5% discount for using bitcoin is often outweighed by the income taxes liability on the purchase.
- Replacing should be done timely and effortlessly, unfortunately it isn’t. You have to maintain an account on some exchange, actively connected to your source of fiat money (bank, credit card) and then transferring the newly purchased bitcoins to your self-custodial wallet.

RSS is one of those humble protocols that glues the web. It was born out of the same values (openness, data portability, ...) that are the foundation of Nostr.
You may not be aware, but you can already export most of the content you create and publish today into an RSS feed.
- Most blog platforms allow users to make their content available as an RSS feed.
- Most bookmark services allow users to create an RSS feed from their bookmarks.
- Plenty of third-party services enable the creation of RSS feeds for your Twitter, Instagram, Facebook accounts (think RSS.app, IFTTT, ...).
- Most podcast platforms generate an RSS feed for your show.

On the other hand, Nostr is poised to become the new web infrastructure. It will dismantle the walled gardens we've been living in for too long

If you want to borrow against your Bitcoin, you can take a look at Firefish. Non-custodial, Bitcoin-native, 3-3 multisig, loans without credit score, fiat in your bank account and no monthly repayments.
But keep an eye on the liquidation, so it might be better to deposit more BTC than required anyway (50% LTV)

I use a bookmark service that generates an RSS feed of the bookmarked items.
The RSS feed is fairly rich (title, link, description, categories, image).
I would like to convert each item in the RSS feed into a Nostr note and publish it to a specific Nostr profile. The description element should become the text of the note, images should be included in the note, categories should become hashtags, and the link should be added at the bottom of the post.
Is there any service (paid options are fine) capable of polling the RSS feed and producing new notes when new items are detected in the feed?

This reply from @jb55 to my suggestion to release a web version of Damus Notedeck left me puzzled …
I firmly believe that if we do not bring Nostr to the web, and the web to Nostr (thanks @Npub.pro , @Form* , … for covering this part), Nostr will never succeed.
Nostr web clients might not be as snappy as native apps, but are those milliseconds so important?

I've been using Proton Mail for a couple of weeks now, as it's the email platform of choice for my employer (Firefish.io, a p2p non-custodial platform for BTC-backed loans).
However, during this time, I've noticed that Proton Mail has suffered at least 3 significant outages.
While privacy is indeed important, reliability is also important too.
