Government censorship has come to #Bluesky
LATEST:
On demands from the Turkish government, Bluesky restricted access to 72 accounts per a report from a Turkish NGO.
DETAIL:
Accounts are restricted for users in Turkey.
Accounts aren't banned from Bluesky's AT Protocol relays etc, but access is moderated at the official client level through geography-specific labels.
WORKAROUNDS?
Realistically impacted accounts are no longer visible to the majority of Bluesky users (most aren't on 3rd party clients) in Turkey.
However, since 3rd party client apps for the AT Protocol aren't forced to use geography-specific labels, they an still be used to view the content.
In theory, official client + VPN would also result in seeing the accounts.

I sent my friend his first bitcoin to Revolut ($30)
He had to verify the wallet it came from. Including my name, wallet etc. since I used a wallet which isn’t kyced (lol) they refused the Bitcoin - he was forced to send it back. Read that again. SEND IT BACK TO THE WALLET.
He couldn’t do anything with it. Fucked up.
But now he’s holding his own keys - he immediately understood why we bitcoin 😂 Barbara Streisand effect.

Typically what people do is buy a property that may have an older house sitting on it, and they’ll tear it down completely. I think part of it has to do with building codes (everything must be brough up to the newest siesmic standards. This may seem controversial, but I actually like that Japan is homogeneous. It’s more pronounced where I am compared to say Tokyo and I don’t think I like the “diversity” of Tokyo. Japan has a distinct culture and you can feel it in the rural areas more so than large cities. Having more international visitors seems to dilute this unique cultural vibe. I’m part of the problem too, I’m not exactly fitting in. That’s not to say that tourism is not welcome - but I don’t think people should aim to live in this country. Japan faces somewhat of a population crisis and will require more people emigrating here, and that’ll likely make it feel even less unique, which kind of saddens me.

My kid is learning English as a second language and he was using some corporate program that was supposed to be fine tuned over many years. I noticed that their method of teaching is not great because it forces kids to memorize images instead of read actual text, so I stopped immediately and switched him over to reading one syllable words and gradually building them into sentences.
Now I use ChatGPT to generate custom lesson plans for him. It takes about 10 seconds to generate. I can honestly say this has worked much better than this expensive corpo program.
The tools we have at our disposal now are insane. All it takes is a tiny bit of imagination and a drive to try things.
