We at #GitCitadel have spent this week pricing out remote servers and brainstorming; considering the most cost-effective, but still performant, way to implement a public #gitserver based upon Nostr. In order to help us front the rental fees and lower the price to individual npubs, we have begun a new https://Geyser.fund goal.
The resulting server will have multiple #gnostr implementations and tools on it. We are planning to begin with:
* the #GitRepublic API, that will make it possible to log in to git with your Nostr signer, and will trade out e-mail communication with Nostr notes,
* an HTTP-based git server (the first thing that will be going online, so that everyone can move or mirror their repos),
* a paid AUTH relay https://gitcitadel.nostr1.com (currently 5000 sats/month, to cover all the running costs, but we hope to bring that

355 clients connected to the relay simultaneously and so far, it hasn’t even broken a sweat 😎
I’ve run local tests with thousands of open sockets, of course—but experience has taught me that production is a whole different beast.

Today, I went to the ophthalmologist to have a chalazion checked—one I’ve had in my eye for almost a year. The doctor told me I needed surgery (a minor outpatient procedure, but one that required signing a consent form).

I’m almost done with the new relay for nostrcheck-server, currently experimenting with search extensions.
So far, it’s stable and fast with 3,000,000 events loaded into memory. I had to fine-tune every operation to avoid bottlenecks across the system.
Querying such a large dataset is inherently slow, but on top of that, the relay has to handle hundreds of simultaneous requests over open WebSockets.
To tackle this, the relay currently runs with a pool of n workers and a processing queue for heavy tasks.
It’s fully compatible with all relevant NIPs. Not designed for 100 million events yet, but more than capable of efficiently handling community-scale needs.
I’m sure I’m running into the same problems others have already solved, but I’m doing it anyway—because this is Nostr. We have to keep 500 incomplete and incompatible clients connecting to 500 incomplete and incompatible relays, otherwise, what are we even doing here? 🤣🤓

I receive hundreds of images and videos every day. Only a small fraction of these uploads contain unpleasant, illegal, or outright revolting content.
However, even this small fraction carries significant weight. Due to my daily reviews, I am beginning to experience flashes of disturbing images. Reviewing content every day takes its toll, and hosting providers take on a personal risk by storing other people’s files so that Nostr can thrive and more independent servers can emerge.
Over the past two years, I have hosted close to 200,000 files. Thanks to some donations, I have been able to keep going, and I truly appreciate that support. But let’s be honest: relying on individual resilience is not a sustainable model. Many of these files with adult content, I have reviewed each upload by hand, one by one.
Two days ago this ‘person’ started uploading illegal content involving underage children.
I'm tired, very tired. For me #nostr is a breath of fresh air, but this is beyond me, this is an abuse to all of us, from the victims of the pictures to myself.

Hello @hzrd149 . I am looking at blossom's spec. I have a few questions that I can't make sense of.
1- Why doesn't blossom use NIP98 as an authorization event?
2 - Why does it use its own event with kind 24242 that is not in the standard?
3- Why a whole new protocol if it could have been integrated, for example, in NDK + nostr-tools + NIP96? Does it make sense to go against all the work done these years?
I would like to have a productive conversation, as I am evaluating the possible implementation of blossom for the new version of nostrcheck-server. Starting from NIP96, the modifications to be made in the source code are minimal, apart from the authorization event that does change completely.
