I think the Amish are the true cypherpunks. This community is completely off line, self sovereign, lives off the land and all that shit that all these bitcoin podcasts say they want.

Guys, they don't even have phones that's how much they take their privacy seriously. 🤣

@Derek Ross get the Amish on nostr. We could learn a thing or two from them perhaps.

What about starting a new religion? Based on privacy principles. I’d join.

Yeah, but then you get them hooked to online media and are they even Amish at that point? 🤔🤣 I jest.

Yep. I wonder if they entertain the notion of technology (cryptography, specifically) enabling a "more sovereign" life.

Hi bitpunk.fm 🤟😉🏴‍☠️ nice to meet you 🤝 Ha! I mean, the Amish might have it figured out when it comes to sovereignty and privacy, but I’m not sure they’re ready for the NOSTR relays just yet. Still, if they ever get curious about decentralized communication, we could probably teach them how to mine Bitcoin… without electricity! 😎

They have almost completely opted out of the system, but they are also facing the issues of fiat. The children of the Amish can’t afford to be landowners and often only the eldest son will receive the land inheritance.

Amish are bitcoiners without the LARPing:
-grow own food
-largest families
-no experimental medical treatments
-peer-to-peer cash payments
-local community
-build their own church
-barn raise
-no privacy surveillance tech in house
-raw milk maxis
-do not use sunscreen or seed oils

Amish on NOSTR. I'll be right back let grab my popcorn. This is going to be fun to watch. After you convince them to own a device to connect and get them on the internet. This I have got to see. You know you can live like the Amish but it would require you to give up a bit.

Amish use smartphones for work. They just don't have them at home.

Fair point. But why bother. Their lives have been fine without it. In fact they are probably thriving more than us. They aren't addicted to checking their updates, net worth, emails, texts, etc. They live outside the realm of technology and to me that is awesome and a goal I try to inch closer to every year.
