nostr is multicast, not broadcast.

people want nostr to be "twitter without the censorship" without understanding that the very architecture that enables censorship resistance changes the delivery guarantees.

multicast is more resilient than broadcast because you can propagate information without requiring guaranteed delivery to every node.

decide what matters more to you, perfect delivery or censorship resistance.

"the cryptocurrency space has its origins in projects like Chaumian Ecash, which put the preservation of digital financial privacy front and center"

"Privacy gives you the freedom to live your life in a way that best suits your personal goals and needs, without having to constantly balance every action between "the private game" (your own needs) and "the public game" (how all kinds of other people, intermediated by all kinds of mechanisms including social media cascades, commercial incentives, politics, institutions, etc, will perceive and respond to your behavior)

Without privacy, everythingbecomes a constant battle of "what will other people (and bots) think of what I'm doing" - powerful people, companies, and peers, people today and in the future. With privacy, we can preserve a balance. Today, that balance is being rapidly eroded, especially in the physical realm, and the default path of modern techno-capitalism, with its hunger

My thoughts from #MuslimBitcoinSummit

Bitcoin dominance is unstoppable!

Scholars are sympathetic and joining the cause but strategic institutions like Darul Uloom and Al Ahzar are at the mercy of governments trapped by IMF loans. This means GCC and marginal adoption must be the focus.

Bitcoin Futuwwa is realistic and must continue to be nurtured!

Building muslim btc circular ecomomies is a next step and lightning + nostr will be important for this. More work needs to be done in this area to support migration away from fiat SM.

Muslim Bitcoiners were boycotting Microsoft long before it was trending.

At the recent Muslim Bitcoin Summit, it was common to see attendees already running Linux, de-Googled phones with @GrapheneOS, VPNs across all their devices, and running Nostr.

They’ve been leading the charge, technologically and financially, in this boycott movement from the start.

And this goes way beyond Starbucks, McDonald’s, or Microsoft.

But to see it clearly, you’ve got to fall down the Bitcoin rabbit hole first.

If it's Twitter or something else instead is like having philosophy classes in kindergarten.

We need to get out of this corrupt system the advocates for endless wars and thrives at the excesses of the poor, and exploits people around the world.

Now is the time, join the Movement!

They want you to own nothing and be happy.

You won’t own your home, your car, your phone, and now they want you to not even own the food on your plate.

It sounds crazy now, but soon it will be normalized to borrow money to buy lunch and the masses will think we are crazy for not doing so.

NEW: Doordash users will be able to take out a loan to pay for lunch after the company struck a deal with Klarna.
Customers will be able to split a payment into 4 interest-free installments or defer payments to a more convenient date.

Meta-learning is the way to go for a Muslim.

There are two paradigms of learning, namely consumer learning and producer learning.

If a learner wants to understand the current way of things and just apply them, in other words consume the knowledge, reshape it, and then repeat it, consumer learning is enough for that learner.

However, if one wants to act like the vicegerent of Allahu Teala in expanding the anthropic knowledge horizon, that learner must be a producer learner. And although there might be multiple ways of becoming a producer learner, meta-learning is one of the most straightforward ways.

Meta-learning can be summarized as learning to learn and extracting patterns across history to comprehend why new concepts and paths emerge in their own contexts. If one understands the reason for the emergence of novel paradigms throughout the history, that learner can

What is this obsession of developers with Nostr communities lately? I think, forget it. Everyone is forming their own, constantly changing community here. I don't understand why this thematic segmentation is needed.

That's something I don't understand about Nostr btw. Cool, we have a new protocol. Fine. We even have zaps. Honestly, this isn't all that new—there was already a social network where people could pay each other for their posts. But okay, zaps are cool.

But why does the UI still look like it's from 1999? What's the point of communities, previously called "forums" previously called NNTP newsgroups? Why just a purely timeline-like display of all notes? UI and design—why have you been stuck for over 25 years? How about some new concepts? Completely new interaction concepts?

But new UI concepts would probably fail because of the users. Admit it—you’re all too conservative.

Bitcoin has been a game-changer for our mission to support orphans. With its borderless and permissionless nature, we’ve been able to receive donations from around the world instantly, without the delays and high fees of traditional banking systems. This means more funds go directly to feeding, educating, and empowering the children in our care.

Beyond donations, we are teaching orphans how to earn and save in Bitcoin, giving them financial skills for a self-sustaining future. Bitcoin isn’t just helping us do charity—it’s enabling us to build long-term solutions for those in need.

My observation this Ramadan is that most muslims are entirely captured by fiat - not just on a social but on a political level.

Socially, if you're not on Meta (Whatsapp and IG in particular), then you're not engaged in the community. Doesn't matter if you show up for salat, nearly half the engagement is online now (covid really did a number to normalize that). Total survelance state capture! What happened to the days where mosques were afraid of native informats?

Politically, it is hard to say there has been any recovery from the left yet post November. I don't say this just regarding the American scene, but globally the trends are still toward the right. Key in this has been broad ethnic embrace of racial superiority. Muslims have not avoided this movement. Trump support among American muslims remains at ATH (thanks largely to Musk -

Okay, the next complete website test that will come will be the one for @Coinos

As mentioned, the landing page with the inquiry form is online (see quoted note below). You all can submit your websites for testing. And there are already 3 test results available (in the blog) if you want to get an impression.

But if I have time in between, I also pick websites that I want to test. Just like that. And next, I will test coinos.io, the emerging, increasingly famous Lightning address provider.

Let's see how the guys perform who offer us wallets where we are supposed to manage our hard money for spending.

Launch of My Website Testing Series!

Back in 2001, I spent 2.5 years testing around 74 websites for free, focusing on usability. Now, 24 years later, it’s time for a revival—this time bigger and more comprehensive.

There's nothing quite like this on the web, and it can't be automated either, as the tests span seven categories. The last category is something as challenging and rarely discussed as "ethical aspects".

Why do this? Simply to finally answer the question: "How good is a website?" Because just looking at it in a browser isn’t enough. You have to pop the hood and examine what’s inside. And that’s exactly what I do with these tests.

Three test results are already published on my blog.

So, if you really want to know how "good" your website is—go for it! If you want me to

Some Bitcoin History...

On this day in 2013, an undiscovered discrepancy between the Bitcoin 0.7 and recently released 0.8 client versions caused an unintentional hard fork (a network split).

After a storm of discussion and organizing by developers, the community, services, and miners, a consensus on downgrading nodes to 0.7 was reached and over nearly 6 hours the dominant hash power migrated back to the 0.7 chain.

After reaching a peak of 8 blocks ahead of the other chain, the forked chain finally fell behind the 0.7 version and 24 blocks were orphaned at once from the forked chain, marking when all of the software across the entire Bitcoin ecosystem fell back into consensus.

What I'm doing today:
• I'm taking at least 24 minutes out of the day to review some bitcoin code, and/or learn at least one new thing

I don't give an axe about ETFs and strategic Bitcoin reserves or what any state or Microstrategy does. You're all boring me with your copied press releases whenever Trump said "Bitcoin". Honestly, don't you feel stupid doing this?

I'm interested in the implementation of Stack-Spend-Replace and self-custody on a broad private level. Because that’s the only thing protecting us from widespread price manipulation—that we private hodlers are still in the majority. But go ahead, keep shilling ETFs and government involvement. Make politicians and bankers richer.

Did you forget? Cyberpunk and all that? In movies, you always want to be on the side of the outsider, the rebel, the anarchist. And now in real life? System pawn.

Indonesia is looking like the Muslim country that will lead the way in Bitcoin adoption and development. Out of all the Muslim-majority nations, it seems the most serious about building real Bitcoin tools and infrastructure.

Very bullish on what’s happening there

Sheikh Abdulqadir as-Sufi talks about the modern version of bread and circuses 👇

"...to distract people from desiring economic freedom, the right to choose your medium of exchange, freedom from purchase tax, interest, credit profile - something intrinsically human had to fill the void created by financial slavery..."

Our 3rd essay in the Bitcoin Only Series is now posted on the @BitcoinMajlis blog.

Read it here: http://bitcoinmajlis.org/bitcoin-only-series-3-4-ethical-issues-of-crypto/

This one talks about the ethical issues related to crypto, which draws from our previously published piece on “halal blockchains” due to its relevance to the topic.

To summarize, the crypto space is fraught with ethical issues related to project inception, founder influences, and token distribution models, governance practices, upgrade processes, and protocol enforcement.

Bitcoin stands apart. Its fair initial distribution, lack of ICOs or premines, credible neutrality, leaderless development, and respect for user autonomy make it ethically distinct from the crypto space.

Ramadan Mubarak! 🌙 🕋

📢We’re thrilled to launch our 3rd #Bitcoin charity drive for @OrphansOfUgandaChildrenCenter this Ramadan! As we fast this sacred month, let us pause to remember those who struggle daily without food or necessities—children whose resilience inspires us. With your boundless support, we raised $6,000 in 2023 and $15,000 in 2024. This year, we aspire to soar even higher, uplifting more lives in profound ways. These orphans in Uganda are in need of food, shelter, medicine, and education, and every donation counts.

The Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) said, "The believer's shade on the Day of Resurrection will be his charity."

Why This is a Game-Changer:

Ramadan beckons us to give, and Bitcoin answers with unmatched impact. Traditional charities usually take a cut, but with Bitcoin, you deliver your generosity directly to the orphans, peer-to-peer. No middlemen can take

Money’s primary purpose has always been to be able to hold the value of the entire society, and not break.

Literally every other thing we associate with money, or feature we wish it would provide, is either meaningless or doesn’t work at all, unless it can achieve the above.

In fact, the variable ability to accomplish the first goal, is exactly what ultimately limits the size of the economic network.
It’s why cowhide only ever work in small, disparate networks. It’s why glass beads failed after the European and African continents were connected. It’s why gold is the only thing that ever became a globally spanning monetary base, because a gold bar lost 500 years ago is the EXACT SAME gold bar today.

Exchanging value doesn’t matter if it isn’t expected to carry it. Payment speeds mean nothing if the cost to undo

Bitcoin maximalism follows logically from the commodity theory of money. It’s the result of a methodical and deductive process. Read 👇

"Thus there would be an inevitable tendency for the less marketable of the series of goods used as media of exchange to be one by one rejected until at last only a single commodity remained, which was universally employed as a medium of exchange; in a word, money."

For years, Bitcoiners pushed exchanges to adopt Lightning.

And guess what? It worked. Public Lightning volume is up 266% in about a year.

A few interesting insights from our new @River report:

Our previous Lightning research in 2023 showed a 1212% increase in transactions.

Many of these were low value, as people experimented with new apps & business models.

Now, a new wave of bigger volume has come in, driven by exchanges.

We used the same methodology for our estimates as in 2023, but instead of having data on 52% of public capacity, we now got up to 79.4%

A massive thank you to Acinq, @Alby, Bitfinex, @Breez ⚡️, C=, @LNBϟG, Kraken, LQWD, NiceHash, OKX, Cyberdyne, Sunny Sarah, @THNDR, and @Wallet of Satoshi for sharing data.

The Lightning industry continues to grow

So was watching The Thinking Muslim with their latest discussion with Imam Tom Facchine and the man seriously has such good insights. May Allah سُبْحَانَهُۥ وَتَعَالَىٰ preserve and protect him and his family.

Wanted to share the very comprehensive response from Imam Tom to the following question by Muhammad Jalal.

(Also super satisfying that I don't have to break up my post due to a paywall limitation 😆)

MJ: Those who Embrace Islam are they expected to embrace Muslim culture in inverted commas or Arab culture or Pakistani culture whether that's dress or food or you know other aspects of cultural life because of course we do see a lot of converts who become Muslim and culturally also they shift more than just their ideas and their habits and their religious commitments.

TF: This is one of the most important questions especially

It's almost too perfect. An Ethereum smart contract exploit at an exchange occurred just three days after we highlighted technical flaws in crypto in our essay on the @BitcoinMajlis blog.

When you design a digital monetary system to do more than just act as money, like implementing smart contracts on the base layer, you inherently compromise on security and decentralization by default.

We explored this in our essay. Check it out 👇

Starting work on automatic silent updates.

Not easy, as most installer plugins fall short, so I have no idea when it will be ready. But I'm on it, as I definitely want it.

If anyone is good at Kotlin/Flutter plugin code and would like to contribute, let me know!

The food industrial complex is essentially grooming all of us for sugar addiction, metabolic sickness, and endemic health issues.

The corporate oligarchs poison the food with glyphosate, augmented the entire agricultural economy to destroy small ethical producers, and blast us with constant ads pushing this shit that slowly destroys our minds, bodies, and total well-being.

At some point we will all realize how abusive this whole fiat food system is, and how much it takes advantage of all of us on an economic, emotional, and ethical level. The best thing about the collapse of the fiat system will be the destruction of fake food sludge system that is propped up by fake money.

THE CPI SCAM EXPOSED BY @Saifedean Ammous

Inflation isn’t just about numbers—it’s about what you’re forced to give up. The government says inflation is only 2–3%, but that’s because you’re not eating ribeye anymore—you’re choking down soy sludge instead.

CPI doesn’t measure the real cost of living. It tracks what you settle for when prices soar. The quality of life quietly crumbles, while the official stats stay “under control.”

They print, you suffer. #Bitcoin fixes this. 🥩⚡

Agree or disagree? Let’s hear it #nostr

Best VPNs right now:

Mullvad: good performance, anonymous payment, no email account

Obscura VPN: can't be blocked by VPN detectors, anonymous payment, no email account, but only Mac client for now (will change in near future)

NymVPN: zero-knowledge network, anonymous payments, no email account, covers & obfuscates traffic, but no wireguard configs for routers yet

What I don't count:

ProtonVPN: no anonymous payments => KYC
LNVPN: Lightning payments but has data transfer limits

When I was in my first year in madeenah uni, I visited a shaykh called Ubaid al Jaabiree and I had a very important question. Important to me at least. I said in my broken Arabic after studying it for less than a year “Shaykh, there’s this teacher, and he said xyz, is he a deviant?”. Upon hearing my question he said “study knowledge, may Allaah bless you”.

That answer was the best advice, and answer I received at the time, as I was able to extract from it way more than what I asked for.

1) My question isn’t as important as I thought it was.
2) The answer isn’t going to solve my fundamental problem, which was ignorance.
3) By following his advice, I would solve all the above in one go.
4) Just because I asked a question, doesn’t mean

Ibn Khaldun argues that a tribe accepting taxation has already been weakened, as strong 'group feeling' (‘asabiyyah) resists imposed payments.

Once people grow used to paying taxes under oppression, they lose the strength to defend themselves and cannot achieve 'royal authority'
