Long ago the US government wanted to put a "clipper chip" in everybody's computer. This chip would encrypted traffic (wasn't common at the time) but witih a backdoor so that law enforcement could see your data.

Later NIST recommended Dual_EC_DRBG encryption that suspiciously could have been constructed with a backdoor, and later evidence from Snowden indicated that it probably did have this backdoor.

Also the P curves (P-224, P-256, and P-384) were constructed with numbers that are unexplained and could weaken the algorithm if you know the secret of how those numbers were chosen.

Chrome and Firefox do not support ed25519 in TLS, but they do support the P-curves.

I suspect TLS isn't secure against the NSA unless both sides are using algorithms that the NSA can't break, which in the browser HTTP world is hardly possible.

Recently I receive the question a lot, why I’m not Nostr first, or whatever that’s supposed to mean.

I went to MIT two years ago and at a debate at the MIT Media Lab about new laws for media and content distribution and decentralized alternatives hosted by a Harvard professor and professor Sandy Pentland, I pushed back and lobbied for Nostr.

For over two years I have been on Nostr, when it just started and it was almost deserted and @jack was answering everyone. I think the why people abandon Nostr and Bitcoin is in my opinion, it's because they don't truly understand the purpose behind these protocols. When it comes to Bitcoin, people often jump on the bandwagon when the price is skyrocketing, but as soon as the hype dies down, they lose interest. It's a classic case of NGU syndrome.

As for Nostr, I believe people initially see it as a Twitter alternative, but they soon realize it's a different beast altogether. Unlike Twitter, Nostr doesn't have an addictive algorithm that feeds them content. Instead, users need to actively seek out and follow the people they're interested in. Unfortunately, many people aren't used to taking control of their feed, and as a result, they quickly lose enthusiasm. If they don't make an effort to follow others, their feed remains empty, and they abandon ship.
