We at #GitCitadel have spent this week pricing out remote servers and brainstorming; considering the most cost-effective, but still performant, way to implement a public #gitserver based upon Nostr. In order to help us front the rental fees and lower the price to individual npubs, we have begun a new https://Geyser.fund goal.
The resulting server will have multiple #gnostr implementations and tools on it. We are planning to begin with:

"Choose your own algorithm" will NEVER work on Nostr the way it works on Bluesky.
Smart platform-provided algorithmic feeds like those from X, TikTok or Instagram will NEVER work on Nostr.
Anything that requires filtering from a "global feed" of all notes and delivering that to specific users will never work on Nostr because there isn't and there cannot ever be a global feed on Nostr.
If that is what you think Nostr needs to be good and popular then you'll first have to destroy Nostr by turning it into something else, and then you can implement it.
The alternative is to create something new, a new way of doing discovery, something that actually works nicely within the Nostr constraints, something that actually only works on Nostr because only Nostr has these distributed independent servers with specific owners, specific rules, different users, personalities and preferences.

Presenting... 📚 https://bookstr.xyz, a simple Goodreads alternative built on Nostr!
This is an extremely basic prototype that only barely works (user beware!). However, I think it highlights what is amazing about building on Nostr. I was inspired by this post, and then able to build a client in 3 days almost entirely with AI.
The opportunity to bridge social behavior with "other stuff" (in this case, books via Open Library API) is huge. This concept could work for any type of content, not just books. Music, Movies and TV, games, etc. — all on Nostr.
The process of building on Nostr with AI also demonstrated a few gaps in the ecosystem where AI-ready tools were missing or failing, so there is definitely opportunity to grow there.
Shout out @Alex Gleason 🐍 who had many of these ideas first, helped me with lots of the

The interoperability aspect and ownership of an account is revolutionary. Would if that follow you purchased had no walls and had no expiration? Would if it went from YouTube to Instagram to Twitter to Facebook to Spotify and etc. A portable social graph.
How would that compare?

The interoperability aspect and ownership of an account is revolutionary. Would if that follow you purchased had no walls and had no expiration? Would if it went from YouTube to Instagram to Twitter to Facebook to Spotify and etc. A portable social graph.

I have also shared this message about Strava on Strava. Result: many cycling friends are now asking what I mean with this. This forces me to explain what enshittification is and what the difference is building an alternative with the Nostr protocol vs another platform just like Strava. Basicly I’m telling them they are paying for something that will become more expensive and the quality offered by Strava will go down on the long-term. They don’t disagree on this. To me this is a strong signal there is enough room for an alternative 🤙🏻🫡

Strava has entered a new phase of enshittification. A platform I’m using since 2015 as a cyclist and I was paying for a membership too.

Who is going to make neat Nostr NFC tags?
During Bitcoin Amsterdam at the Nostr booth and @Nostrdam we used NFC cards to find and follow npubs. So I just let someone else scan my NFC card and my profile was there instant. It’s the best way to share your profile in meatspace. So instead of having a simple NFC card I see a great market oppertunity to deliver Nostr branded NFC tags. Who can build that? #growNostr

My advice: don’t do marketing for Nostr. Have you ever seen advertisments for a protocol? It doesn’t make any sense. Nobody will get a clue what this ad is about. #KeepNostrWeird
