Oh hell yeah. I had a hardcore touhou phase. I want to get back into it but I still haven't figured out how to get the games to play properly on modern pc's 😠 Last time I played them I think was on windows 7.

I'd just load them on a virtual machine, I did that with a RPG maker game

Haha you also tried to make your own games?
I went through a phase like that too 10+ years ago. Worked on a FF-like game for years and gave up because holy shit, I noticed how much work it is to make something all by yourself. And I wanted to make it look great, so I was constantly scripting shit like realistic NPC movement behaviour and details such as lantern flickering etc..
My story was so cliché as well lmao.
Amnesiac protagonist with no regard for social norms, trying to remember who he as he's doing mercenary jobs.

Yes, I did. I stopped when I realized I'd have to study programming for most of the things I wanted to do, which I hated (and would eventually work with anyway, lol). It was supposed to be a parody for a community I hung out with. You can do some amazing things with RPG Maker, especially now that we have a ton of documentation from the community, but it's definitely not the engine I'd like to work with nowadays.
