Interesting.
Do they get a dm about what happened?

No, we basically remove the clear violations and in extreme cases ban the npub. Illegal media (CSAM) is reported to authorities too, as we are obligated to do by the law

Well, I think it’s helpful if they get a notice with the rules. I believe that’s usually the practice generally.
That might be helpful. Especially if it’s a rule that is not well known. I think the funny part here is that we are not used to seeing unwanted content, we don’t even know what’s even considered appropriate. If you would ask me what is not allowed I would probably guess 4/10.
Illegal stuff is different since those are not allowed anywhere, they know what they are doing.

It’s mainly illegal media (CSAM) which is understood well by the uploader. Pornography is the only one that might not be clear, but we describe it in specific terms in the ToS.
Good idea about the DM, I didn’t even think of that. Let me see if I can implement automated notice.

Simply put, it is highly unlikely that 99.99% of regular Nostr users will unintentionally violate the rules

Glad I was helpful.
Still, I’m very curious about the original dilemma.
People have no idea where they are uploading and what are the rules.
I think it’s good for Clients to have a link to the TOS and highlight some of the well established rules during onboarding. Maybe some do already.
Notice: Media service are managed by third party business, illegal activity will be removed and reported to the authorities… Yada yada.,.
