Just like an artistic director can prompt a few people to record a movie.

Here’s a thought experiment.

Two people prompt AI to make them some art (an image, a song, a book, a movie, pick any it doesn’t really matter.)

The first person prompts, “make me the best [artistic medium] ever.”

The second person uses AI for the same medium but spends all their days and nights prompting and only after a year are they satisfied with the results.

Both works are unveiled and both are praised as masterpieces.

Art isn't graded based on medium or amount of effort involved. It's value is based solely on the emotional reaction it generates in the viewer.

Loved or appreciated I would say instead of “valued” in a monetary/economic sense.

This is a very good question. I love it.

From my heart I would be tempted to tell you the second one is the real art because someone has put his soul into it, but if I need to be told which one had more human efforts put into it does it really matter? If it mattered for me appreciation of it then I would see it by myself.

I think as humans we care about effort and want to ascribe authorship to things, even when it is obscure or unknown.
