Plenty of hard-liners on both sides. Again, fair take, but I disagree. I still prefer to be able to correct my typos. As for folks abusing edits... I’ll just block/mute them.
Same goes for deletion, even though deleting on Nostr is kind of an illusion, given that plenty of relays and clients won’t comply with it. In my view, both editing and deleting are here to stay.
Yes, editing brings its own challenges. No, not every social media platform has this feature. But yes, it can be done right. It can work in social media, and it can even be done in distributed & decentralized platforms (e.g., Mastodon/ActivityPub).
Maybe it can be done in a simpler way (and I’m all for testing and evolving alternative implementations in practice, plus gathering user feedback). The best way to "eliminate" editing is to replace it with a suitable alternative.

But... Meh. Nostr is different. I love it because it is different. I've seen the consequences of editing and deletion. Just look at the pedo celebs deleting their tweets after the Diddy stuff came out. Screw that. Own what you say.

Lol, counterpoint: Celebrities deleting their posts is actually a good thing. 🤣
But anyway, this subject has been debated to the point of boredom across hundreds, or maybe thousands of notes. My opinions are not relevant. If you notice, none of the two people at the centre of this debate gives a rat ass about my takes ejther. I mainly answer this kind of note for thre sake of new users. They are often curious about editing or confused by Fiatjaf's "ASCII art" on Amethyst.

Fair points, but the annoying thing is that the people mention are treating nostr exactly the opposite of the most of its potential would suggest. Their vision is clouded by fiat fever dreams. So many claim to be BTC maxis but are trying to treat nostr exactly like another pump N dump VC bro strategem. I hate it so much.
Also, it isn't good that the satanic pedo death cult gets to erase evidence of participating in things that really are deserving of damnation.
