Google. I hate ads but using an ad-based service and then blocking ads in immoral.

It's like watching a game on the stadium without paying for it.

It’s not immoral, it’s against the terms of service. And by violating the terms of service they can restrict me in anyway they wish as a penalty within the confines of their service ( their property which they have a right to exclude me from) Catch me if they can.

Our moral wetware was formed for or evolved from (take your pick) human to human interaction over the distribution of food etc within a small group of closely bonded humans in a deathly scarce world. Extrapolating “Stealing” to cover skipping ads in this case, puts the wetware outside of the context that would trigger my moral sentiments. No moral high ground here, just two assholes trying to get the better of each other.

I will see your stadium example and raise you a firework show put on by a theme park. Do you avert your eyes

That analogy falls short. I could rent or build a blimp and watch the game without paying.

You're also not acknowledging the fact that Google et al are *maliciously* doing things to the people who use their "free" services, and costing them time/money/resources is a good thing to do since it will hasten their downfall.

Attack the enemy's supplies, cripple their forces.

You could build those things, but if you trully understand property rights and respect what others are building in a capitalistic society, you wouldn't do it.

And yes, Google is evil and so on.. But that doesn't give you the right to steal.

Please explain how it is stealing? I am watching a video stream produced by a content creator who makes nothing or barely anything from one view. I have not absconded with a thing from a particular place without permission of the owner of said thing

Google can shut off the spigot by requiring users to sign in to an account using their app. They have not and I posit will not do so. That is not my issue.

That whole model is broken. It must be stopped, and I think nostr may help break the back of those monsters, eventually. V4V will help, being transparent about hosting media will help, educating people on how things work will help.

But watching a streaming video online without sitting through manipulative propoganda and sometimes vilely disgusting is NOT stealing. Especially since I've never agreed to those terms for years.

Do you pay the creator and the platform directly for all the videos that you blocked the ads from? You are using somebody else's property in a way they didn't agree with. So, you better offer some compensation via other means.

If you want to watch it without ads, pay the provider of those services and/or the creator directly. That's why we are here.

It doesn't matter how little the creator gets from you on an ad-based system. If everyone blocks ads, neither the platform, not the creator would exist. So the ad is essential to the terms and conditions of the material you are consuming.
